Missouri Valley Voices events are an opportunity to bring residents together, share what we have been working on, discuss issues affecting the community, and create space for questions and conversation.

Our quarterly community meetings are currently the foundation of MVV events, with additional public discussions, informational sessions, and community events planned for the future.

Meeting Summary

This was the first Missouri Valley Voices community meeting and an opportunity to bring residents together to help shape the direction of MVV’s work.

I shared a summary of the issues I had identified through my reporting, public records work, and experiences in the community. From there, the discussion focused on the concerns residents were seeing themselves, the questions they wanted answered, and the issues they believed deserved the most attention.

While several topics were discussed, attendees were in clear agreement that water should be the highest priority.

The conversation helped establish the direction of Missouri Valley Voices’ work moving forward, with water quality, water billing, infrastructure, and related concerns becoming a major focus of future reporting and public records requests.

Meeting Summary

Q2 built on the priorities identified during Missouri Valley Voices’ first community meeting, with water remaining a major focus of the discussion.

The meeting included a more detailed review of Missouri Valley’s water system, Iowa DNR reporting requirements, current testing practices, trichloroethylene testing, and the DNR Phase 2 Water Plan. We also reviewed the status of several open records requests and discussed issues involving fiscal responsibility, local property and construction projects, employee raises and benefits, and other community concerns.

Additional discussion included the yard waste dump closure, the proposed chicken ordinance, an MVV community investment announcement, and an open discussion about priorities for the third quarter.
